Bartolo wins with bat and arm in 2015, the 7 hour double header with a triple play in 1964, and Kevin Pillar comes back from beaming last year. Just a few of the games the Mets have played on May 31st.
1 Year ago today: Mets 6 Diamondbacks 2 (boxscore): Francisco Lindor SS 2 for 5, 2 Ks; Pete Alonso 1B 2 for 5, HR, 4 RBIs, 1 run scored; Billy McKinney RF 1 for 4, HR, 1 RBI, 1 run scored; Jacob deGrom (W,4-2) 6 innings, 2 hits, 8 Ks;
NY Post: Pete Alonso’s monster return helps Mets cruise past Diamondbacks
Mets.com: Stat of the Day: deGrom great through 8 - "deGrom great through eight starts. With six scoreless innings of two-hit ball, Jacob deGrom lowered his ERA to 0.71, the fourth-lowest mark by a pitcher through eight starts of a season (dating back to 1912 in the National League and 1913 in the American League), per the Elias Sports Bureau, putting him behind only Fernando Valenzuela (0.50 in 1981), Mike Norris (0.52 in 1980) and Zack Greinke (0.60 in 2009). deGrom's 0.57 WHIP through eight starts is the lowest since the current mound distance was set in 1893."

NY Post: Bartolo Colon legs out RBI double, lifts Mets over Marlins. "So on a day Mets manager Terry Collins anointed Ruben Tejada his starting third baseman for now, when Jeurys Familia got a five-out save ...and when Bartolo Colon tied the major league lead in wins, what was the real burning question? Was Colon thinking triple on his second-inning RBI double? 'No shot,' Colon said through a translator. .. Mets’ 4-3 sweep-averting victory over Miami."

National Pastime.com: In the nightcap of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium, Gaylord Perry pitches ten extra-inning frames in relief, getting the victory when the Giants beat the Mets in the longest game ever played in baseball history, 8-6. The future Hall of Famer reportedly threw his first spitball in a major league game during the seven-hour and 23 minute, 23-inning marathon.
National Pastime.com: The Mets execute an unusual 6-6-3 triple play in the 14th frame of a 23-inning 8-6 loss to the Giants when shortstop Roy McMillan snares Orlando Cepeda's line drive, tags second base to double off Jesus Alou, and then throws to first, catching Willie Mays off base for the third out. The play is the team's second triple-killing in the franchise's brief history, having pulled one off against Los Angeles in 1962, the team's inaugural season.
Baseball Reference: At Shea Stadium, the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants play the longest doubleheader in major league history - 9 hours, 52 minutes - with the help of a 23-inning game in the nightcap that is won by the visiting Giants, 8 - 6, on run-scoring hits by Del Crandall and Felipe Alou against Galen Cisco. The game takes 7:23 to play. In the opener, Juan Marichal pitches a complete game and Orlando Cepeda goes 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI for a Giants 5 - 3 victory.
