Box Score

BOWIE, MD – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (22-39) fell to the Bowie Baysox 9-8 in 10 innings Friday night at Prince George's Stadium as the Baysox rallied in both the ninth and tenth innings to pull out the win. Bowie (25-36) has now taken four of the first five games in the series and handed Binghamton their third straight loss.

After Binghamton scored three runs in the top of the tenth to take an 8-5 lead, Bowie scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning capped off by a two out RBI single from Cody Roberts to give Bowie the extra-inning victory.

With two out in the ninth, the Ponies were up 5-4 but Joey Ortiz hit a solo home run down the left field line to tie the game and force extra innings.

Binghamton for a second straight night had a 5-1 lead. That score held into the bottom of the eighth until Roberts hit a three-run homer to pull Bowie to within one run.

Bowie's rally spoiled an excellent start from Alex Valverde who went a season-long six plus frames allowing one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in the no decision.

The Ponies took an early 4-0 lead courtesy of four runs in the top of the third highlighted by an RBI double from James McCann, a two-run double from Francisco Alvarez, and an RBI double from Ronny Mauricio. In the sixth, Carlos Cortes extended the Ponies lead to 5-1 with a solo homer, his third home run in as many days. Cortes also made a spectacular leaping catch at the left field wall in the third inning to rob Ortiz of a home run.

Alvarez finished 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored to extend his on-base streak to 14 games. McCann went 1-5 with an RBI and a run scored in his second game of a rehab assignment with Binghamton.

The Rumble Ponies continue their series with the Baysox on Saturday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM and pregame coverage getting underway at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

Postgame Notes: Brett Baty had an RBI single in the top of the tenth to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
