Game Recap and Highlights: Hamel, Dominguez Lead Mets Past Tortugas, 7-1

 


St. Lucie wins 7th straight home game 

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 1, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Daytona Tortugas on Wednesday for their seventh straight home win at Clover Park. (Box Score)

Carlos Dominguez went 3 for 3, reached base four times, drove in three runs and scored three times in the victory. 

Starting pitcher Dominic Hamel (3-1) overcame trouble in the first two innings to pick up the win. Hamel held the Tortugas to one run and four hits over 6.0 innings. He walked four and struck out eight. 

Dedniel Nunez struck out four in 2.0 innings of hitless relief and Dylan Hall struck out two in a perfect ninth to close out the game. 

Dominguez got the Mets on the board with a RBI single in the second inning to tie the game 1-1. Later in the second with two outs, Kevin Villavicencio ripped a ball into left field for a hit that plated Dominguez for a 2-1 Mets lead. 

Dominguez punched a two-run single up the middle in the third inning to push the lead to 4-1. Vincent Perozo lofted a sac fly later in the inning for a run that made it 5-1. 

Perozo picked up his first hit of the season with a RBI triple in the fifth inning. That made it 6-1 Mets. 

Alex Ramirez doubled in the sixth inning and went on to score on a wild pitch for the final run of the evening. 

The Mets (31-16) and Tortugas (19-28) meet again on Thursday. First pitch at Clover Park is 6:10 p.m. It's Teacher's Appreciation Night and Dollar Night. All school employees can get a free ticket by showing school ID at the ticket window. There will be $1 Bud and Bud Light (8 oz. cans), $1 soda, $1 popcorn and $2 hot dogs.
