Young allowed nine hits over 5 2-3 innings, walked two and struck out four in his second major league outing since returning from shoulder surgery that sidelined him most of last season...Rookie Jordany Valdespin drove in a career-high four runs, three of them with a pair of two-out hits. The Mets...have scored a major league-leading 134 runs with two outs — nine of them in their first appearance at Tropicana Field in 11 years."

NY Post: "Leiter (6-6) allowed just six hits over 71/3 innings, and after Graffanino hit a solo homer with one out in the first the 36-year- old lefty held the White Sox at bay...Mike Piazza, who has been one of the few run-producing forces in this anemic lineup, crushed a game-tying solo homer into the left-field bleachers leading off the seventh...with a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the eighth...Left fielder Roger Cedeno turned around completely on the ball hit almost to the fence, and instead of an out the White Sox had two runners in scoring position...Scott Strickland came in and the infield was drawn in...Tony Graffanino singled home the winning run past the backhand dive of first baseman Mo Vaughn, and the White Sox won 2-1."

Sid Fernandez (L,5-6) went 8 innings but a 2 run double to Steve Buechele in the 4th and a Jeff King HR in the 5th gave Pittsburgh a 3 run lead.  Mets tried to come back late with a Howard Johnson HR in the 7th and an 8th inning Vince Coleman groundout with Men on 2nd and 3rd but managed no more hits.

 A 5 run bottom of the 3rd highlighted by a Mike Jorgensen 3 run HR gave the Mets an early lead they never relinquished. Craig Swan (W,5-1) went 7 innings, 1 run, 7 hits, 2 walks, 3 Ks;

Mets hit 4 HRS - and lost.  Up 7-4 in the 8th, Tug McGraw allowed 4 runs - but only 1 was earned after errors by Wayne Garrett and Tommie Agee.  John Milner, Wayne Garrett, Rusty Staub and Ken Boswell with the Mets HRs.

With the Mets down 1-0, Craig Anderson (L,3-6) was called on to pitch in the 6th, threw 3 scoreless innings and the Mets were able to take the lead with solo runs in the 6th and 7th.  But in the 9th, Anderson gave up two on a single/triple/single and Houston was able to walk-off to a victory.  The loss put the Mets '62 record at 16-39.
