Without Jonathan Villar (family matter) and Billy McKinney (sore right knee), they were shorthanded on the bench.”

Baseball Reference: R.A. Dickey of the Mets tosses a one-hitter for a 9 - 1 win over the Rays. The only safety comes in the 1st inning, when B.J. Upton hits a high bouncer that 3B David Wright cannot field with his bare hand; the Mets appeal after the game for the ruling to be reversed to an error, but to no avail. Dickey becomes the majors' first 10-game winner this year, but before the night is out, he is joined by Lance Lynn of St. Louis, who fans a career-high 12 batters in a combined 1 - 0 shutout of the White Sox. You Tube Video.

Thanks to a 2 run Howard Johnson double, the Mets led the Pirates 2-1 but in the 8th, Wally Whitehurst surrendered a Barry Bonds HR to tie the game and a Don Slaught single.  Jeff Innis then allowed an Orkando Merced double to score the inherited runner.  Dave Gallagher and Vince Coleman singled in the 9th to give the Mets a chance but Willie Randolph struck out to end the game.

A Hank Aaron walk off HR in the 10th off Danny Frisella won it for the Braves. Duffy Dyer, Ken Boswell and...Tom Seaver helped the Mets build a 5-2 lead but in the bottom of the 8th, a Tommie Agee error on a Hank Aaron fly ball, prolonged the inning and Tom was charged with 3 un-earned runs that tied the game, a Dusty Baker triple the big blow in the 8th.

Jim Hickman had established the mark with 13 round-trippers in 1962, the club's inaugural season.
