"On Saturday, the right-hander dominated the Giants for eight innings, and the Mets rallied with late offensive support in a 5-2 victory at AT&T Park...Over his past three starts, deGrom (W,7-3) is 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA...Bruce stroked a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth against lefty Steven Okert and Wilmer Flores’ run-scoring double later in the inning gave deGrom a cushion....'[DeGrom] is a good pitcher,' Collins said. 'Once he got over the little blip he had, I think he is going to continue on, and I think he is going to have a real big year. We have got to make sure we take care of him. We don’t need anyone else going down.'”

NY Post: "Light-hitting Brave pinch-hitter Keith Lockhart took reliever Scott Strickland (L,6-4) deep leading off the ninth, crushing a decisive homer that gave Atlanta a 3-2 victory and dropping the Mets 8 ½ games out of first place....Reliever Kevin Gryboski (2-1) earned the win, and John Smoltz worked a perfect ninth for his 24th save...In the first inning, Julio Franco smashed an Al Leiter curve 383 feet over the fence in right-center...With one out in the sixth, Atlanta took a 2-0 lead when Gary Sheffield singled home Franco from second..The Mets rallied in the sixth, cutting the deficit to 2-1 when Mo Vaughn came through with a two-out, opposite-field bloop single to drive in Alomar...Jeromy Burnitz tied the game at 2-2 leading off the seventh."

The commissioner's office will suspend the home plate umpire for one game for bumping the Mets manager during the ensuing heated argument, with the New York skipper and outfielder, who were both thrown out of the game, fined for arguing balls and strikes.

Backstop Ramon Castro's sac fly to right ties the game at 1-1 as David Wright advances to third; the Yankees' center fielder then drops Jose Reyes' deep fly ball, allowing Wright to score; Mike Cameron skies to right, plating Doug Mientkiewicz, who had advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw.
