Buck Showalter was happy with David Peterson's outing today: pic.twitter.com/wc3bDv8UmV
"If he can pitch like that, that's gonna help us a lot"

Mark Canha was impressed with David Peterson today: pic.twitter.com/4GinxZF5Sb
Brain Joura Mets360.com: "The Mets went 1-13 with RISP and carrying multiple lefty relievers that the manager has zero faith in led to using 36-year-old Adam Ottavino in back-to-back games, with Ottavino surrendering a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth, sending the Marlins to a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon in Miami."
NY Post: "David Peterson provided his team with a second strong start against the Marlins in less than a week. The left-hander, who is awaiting paternity leave for the birth of a son, pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.10."
Metstradamus: It Happened To The Best Of Them: "But the Mets took two out of three from the Marlins without Jeff McNeil, who it is apparent has become one of the two most important hitters in this lineup. He, along with his .299 average against lefties this season. makes a difference today."
Newsday.com:
- Showalter expects McNeil back when Mets face Astros;
- Mets beaten on Nick Fortes' walk off homer for Marlins; "In the ninth inning, when J.D. Davis walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, the Marlins’ Tanner Scott retired the next three batters. Eduardo Escobar (.663 OPS) struck out swinging. Luis Guillorme (0-for-12 in the series) grounded out. James McCann (.516 OPS) struck out swinging."

Transactions:
New York Mets signed free agent Ed Kranepool on June 27, 1962.
New York Mets released Tom Sturdivant on June 27, 1964.
New York Mets signed free agent Roy Lee Jackson on June 27, 1975.
Cleveland Indians claimed Vinny Rottino of the New York Mets on waivers on June 27, 2012.
1962 | Monroe High School standout Ed Kranepool, who was an Opening Day guest seated in the owners' box with Mrs. Joan Payson and M. Donald Grant, signs a contract that includes an $85,000 bonus, as an amateur free agent with the Mets. The 17 year-old Bronx teenager will spend his entire 18-year career with the expansion team, establishing franchise records for hits, plate appearances, and games played. |
1973 | In the opener of a twin bill at Shea Stadium, Buzz Capra pitches four innings of no-hit relief against the Phillies to get the save for starter George Stone as the Mets beat the Phillies, 7-6. A few hours earlier, the 25 year-old right-handed reliever had attended his dad's funeral in Illinois. |
1993 | Anthony Young sets a major league record when he drops his 24th straight decision, a 5-3 Mets loss to St. Louis at Shea Stadium. The hard-luck New York right-hander, who surpasses the mark established by Boston Dove hurler Cliff Curtis in 1911, will extend the dubious streak to 27 consecutive defeats before winning a game. (Ed. Note - Sadly, AY will die on this date in 2017 at the age of 51, losing his battle to brain cancer. - LP) |
2008 | In a 15-6 Mets victory over the Yankees at the Stadium, Carlos Delgado, with a double, three-run homer, and a grand slam, establishes a new team record with 9 RBIs in one game. The first baseman, who breaks Dave Kingman's 1976 club mark, also surpasses Sky King on the all-time home run list with the first of his two homers, moving into 34th place with his 443rd career round-tripper. |
1992: The Mets edge the Cards with all the runs coming on homers: Dave Gallagher and Tim Jones match dingers, and Howard Johnson's homer in the bottom of the 9th makes John Franco (6-0) a winner. It will be Johnson's last homer of the year.
2012: The Mets erupt for an uncharacteristic offensive outburst, crushing the Cubs, 17 - 1, their most runs in two years. They hit four homers, two by Daniel Murphy, a grand slam by Scott Hairston and a three-run shot by Ike Davis. With David Wright driving in 5 runs, those four players combine for all 17 RBI. Jon Niese is the beneficiary of all that offense, while Jeff Samardzija is charged with the loss.
