Hammerheads clip Mets,  Dominguez ties FSL lead with 12th homer

JUPITER, Fla. (June 8, 2022) – The Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the St. Lucie Mets 5-4 in 10 innings on Wednesday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to snap the Mets' seven-game winning streak. (Box Score)

Jupiter reliever Jake Schrand struck out the side in the top of the 10th to keep the Mets from scoring the free runner on second base.

In the bottom of the 10th, Sam Praytor hit the first pitch from Nate Jones into right field for a single which advanced free runner Zach Zubia to third base. Two pitches later Jones threw a wild pitch through the legs of catcher Jose Rivera to the backstop that allowed Zubia to score the winning run.

The Hammerheads jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. They scored a run in the first inning on an error then put up three runs on Mets starter Dominic Hamel in the fourth inning. Zubia hit a two-run single and Jorge Caballero hit a RBI single to make it 4-0.

Jupiter starter Luis Palacio shut out the Mets for the first five innings. The Mets finally got to Palacios in the sixth inning. Junior Tilien ripped a RBI double to get the Mets on the board. Carlos Dominguez followed with a two-run homer to make it 4-3. It was the 12th homer of the season for Dominguez which tied him for the Florida State League lead.

Stanley Consuegra blasted a solo home run off Palacios in the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4.

Mets reliever Dylan Hall stranded the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings to help force extra innings.

Joshua Cornielly chipped in with three scoreless innings of relief.

Tilien went 3 for 5 from the leadoff spot.

The Mets (35-17) and Hammerheads (27-24) play the third game of their series at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
