Jason Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: The Other Guys Are Trying to Win Too. “A minor but chippy on-field dustup between Stro and Josh Rojas looked like a pointless gesture from a team on a 1-15 streak…but Edwin Diaz looked a little off from the jump in trying to secure the save. With one out, Nick Ahmed singled and took second base on a Billy McKinney bobble, then moved to third on a groundout. The Mets were one out away, but Rojas — of course it had to be Rojas — drove in the tying run”








NY Post: Diamondbacks announcer Bob Brenly mocks Marcus Stroman’s du-rag. “Diamondbacks analyst Bob Brenly, commenting on Stroman’s head covering under his cap, spouted: ‘I’m sure that is the same du-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets.’”

National Pastime.com: Johan Santana, who did not pitch last year because of shoulder surgery performed at the end of the 2010 season, no-hits the Cardinals at Citi Field, 8-0, with the help of third base ump's blown call on a fair ball and an outstanding defensive play by outfielder Mike Baxter. The 33 year-old two-time Cy Young Award winner's 134-pitch effort ends the Mets' streak of over fifty seasons, spanning 8,020 games, without a no-hitter.

Newsday: Mike Baxter now is caught up in the pages of Mets history as a key part of Johan Santana's no-hitter.

A Roger Cedeno triple and a Timo Perez double highlighted a 5 run Mets 4th inning to turn a 5-1 deficit into a 6-5 lead.  Preston Wilson tied the game up for the Marlins in the 5th with a HR and then in the 7th Mike Lowell broke the tie with a HR off Satoru Komiyana (L,0-2).  Komiyana never won a game for the Mets in his one year with the Mets, 2002 finishing 0-3.

Baseball Reference: 2017 - The first-place Brewers defeat the struggling Mets, 2 - 1, behind a strong pitching performance by Chase Anderson who tosses seven scoreless innings. There is an unusual play in the 4th inning: with the bases loaded and one out, Milwaukee's Eric Sogard lifts a pop-up near the third base line. The Mets' batboy tries to get out of the way, taking his chair with him, but in doing so impedes 3B Wilmer Flores' path to the ball. Third base umpire Fieldin Culbreth first calls the batter out, but the umpires reverse themselves after conferring, as there is no provision in the rules for "batboy interference". Manager Terry Collins comes out to argue and is ejected, but he shouldn't have bothered, as Sogard then grounds into an inning-ending double play.
