Ponies Power Past Baysox on Father's Day

BOWIE, MD – Francisco Alvarez go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the sixth sent the Ponies on their way to an 8-4 victory over the Bowie Baysox on Father's Day at Prince George's Stadium.

With the Ponies down 1-0 entering the sixth, Wyatt Young and James McCann singled to begin the frame. That set up Alvarez against reliever Jensen Elliott (4-1), who launched a three-run homer to left to put Binghamton up 3-1. It's Alvarez 15th home run of the season and ties him with Ronny Mauricio for the team lead in RBI with 41.

Binghamton extended their lead in the eighth on a Brandon Mcllwain three-run homer, his first home run of his double-a career. Since joining the Ponies on Saturday, Mcllwain already has three hits and four RBI. Wyatt Young tacked on a two-run single later in the frame to make it 8-1.

Bowie loaded the bases in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate but J.D. Mundy flied out to right against Dedniel Nunez to end the game.

David Griffin allowed one hit over three innings in the start. Justin Lasko (1-1) earned the win allowing one run over four innings in relief.

McCann, catching and batting second, played in his third game with Binghamton on a rehab assignment and was 2-4 with a run scored.

The Rumble Ponies are off Monday and begin a six-game homestand with the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 PM with pregame coverage on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM beginning at 6:20 PM.

Postgame Notes: Alvarez now has a 15-game on base streak…Brett Baty had a bunt single in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games…Young and Manny Rodriguez had multi-hit games…Binghamton took the final two games of the series to finish the road trip 3-4.
